
Sooyun Kim, flute
Sooyun Kim, acclaimed as "a rare virtuoso of the flute" by Libération, has solidified her status as a prominent figure in the classical music world. Following her concerto debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, she has embarked on a successful career, enchanting audiences with her performances alongside esteemed orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony and Boston Pops. Kim's impressive recital venues include Budapest's Liszt Hall, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and Kobe's Bunka Hall. Her European debut recital at the Louvre was broadcasted live on medici.tv.
Recipient of the Georg Solti Foundation Career Grant and other international accolades, Kim's achievements also encompass a third prize at the ARD International Flute Competition. She has graced renowned festivals like Music@Menlo, Tanglewood, and Spoleto USA, showcasing her exceptional talent and artistry. Kim's passion for interdisciplinary art has led her to collaborate with various artists, dancers, and museums globally, including projects with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Glassmuseet Ebeltoft in Denmark.
A distinguished alum of CMS's Bowers Program, Sooyun Kim honed her craft at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Paula Robison. Currently, she imparts her knowledge as a faculty member at the Longy School of Music of Bard College and teaches summer courses at Orford Musique. Kim's remarkable performances are embellished by her unique 18-karat gold flute, custom-crafted for her by Verne Q. Powell Flutes.
